Introducing our Theme for 2083 (2026-27): “Doing for Thinking”
We are thrilled to unveil the guiding philosophy that will shape our #MI_PBL journey across Nepal for the upcoming academic session 2083 (2026-27):
“Doing for Thinking: Learning Experientially from the Real World.”
The Philosophical Foundation
Our theme is anchored in the transformative wisdom of John Dewey:
“Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”
The Logic & Rationale
In a world saturated with information, though “knowing” is a foundation for learning, this is no longer enough in isolation. We believe that true education happens in the friction between cognition, action and reflection.
Action as the Catalyst:
While moving with #MI_PBL, we don’t rely only on a lecture; we start with a challenging DQ, preceded by fueling Entry Event and followed by mining prior knowledge with KWL or NTK. By giving students “something to do,” we ignite their natural curiosity.
The Cognitive Demand:
Not all “doing” is equal. Our PBL Projects are designed to be complex enough, yet scaffolded, that they compulsively demand thinking. When a student encounters a problem in a real-world task, their “thinking” becomes a tool for survival and success, especially when they have been acquainted with foundational understandings.
The Natural Result:
When students use their Multiple Intelligences to navigate real-world scenarios, learning isn’t a chore—it’s an inevitable outcome. Knowledge gained through experience is durable, practical, and profound.
Our Vision for 2083 (2026-27):
This year too, the National Network of PBL Schools will move beyond the classroom walls. From local nurseries to community heritage sites, we are turning the “Real World” into our greatest laboratory.
We invite our member schools, educators, and partners to join us in this shift. Let’s stop just insisting students to learn and start giving them something to do – meaningful, purposeful and aligned with the national curriculum.
Let the thinking begin by doing.
